The First Note

My private blog to you. First, I want to ensure you that this is a truly private. I have to invite people (aka you) to read it, and otherwise I’d have to approve anyone that tries to see it (pretty unlikely). I got the inspiration to do this one night when I was lying awake with my arm pinned under Pasquale, body at a weird angle trying to mirror his positioning, because he’d finally fallen back to sleep and I didn’t dare move and disturb him. I thought about what a “mom” feeling that must be, and my mind began to wander to all of the things that moms, and particularly you, do for their children. It started to form of a (kind of) poem in my brain and at first, I considered just writing that down and sharing it with you. But then I thought about all of the times I have things I want to share with you – the streams of thoughts that come to me like poems or blog posts or letters almost, maybe even short stories. And I remember once helping you with your old phone, and you saying how you saved every one the emails when I published one of my Lilies and Elephants blog posts in your inbox so you could go back and read them, and how you looked forward to getting them. It touched me so much, and I thought how fun it would be to create kind of my own private blog/publication for you. And thus, Notes to Mom. This is definitely an “as things come to me” project. It may be a poem or a short post or a story that’s inspired by a memory with you. And of course it doesn’t take the place of our texts and conversations or anything else. It’s just something in addition, and I plan to try to update it once a month at least, kind of your own personal monthly publication, which is sometimes published on more frequently. It’s not Smithsonian, and likely not nearly as engaging as the monthly updates for your elephant and rhino, but I hope you enjoy!
